"Poetry is language at its most distilled and most powerful"- Rita Dove

Young poetry enthusiasts at the 2011 Poetry Festival

Are you a fan of such poets as Dr. Seuss, Emily Dickinson, Shel Silverstein, Jack Prelutsky and Robert Frost?

Budding poets and poetry lovers alike are welcome to participate in the Academic Booster Club's poetry festival, held on Saturday, January 28, 2012, 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.  (application below), which celebrates the joy of the spoken word.

Students in grades K through 6 can read an original poem of their own or a favorite poem by another writer in this noncompetitive event held annually since 2002.

Following the event, all poems are posted in the Nutley Public Library and and are collected available here in a commemorative booklet distributed to all participants.

Festivals also include entertainment, with guests as varied as local poet Pat Ritacco, the celebrated Pushcart Players, and a performance by the Bard himself, William Shakespeare.
